Details on Whole-Body Turmeric Extra™

The Amazing Power of Turmeric

Turmeric (Curcuma longa) is a perennial herb widely cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical regions of the world, mainly in India and China. Its rhizome, Turmeric, has been used traditionally in both Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine for a myriad of overall health benefits, including digestive and liver support, and for its ability to support a healthy inflammatory response. Turmeric is also widely used in cooking and contributes to Indian curry’s flavor and yellow color.

Turmeric's beneficial effects have been attributed mainly to its curcuminoids, including curcumin, bisdemethoxy curcumin, and demethoxy curcumin. Curcumin C3 Complex® is a patented, widely studied extract standardized to contain 95% curcuminoids and known for its unique composition and ratio of the three bioactive curcuminoids. These curcuminoids have antioxidant properties and the ability to support a healthy inflammatory response. Each of the three compounds plays a crucial role, and demethoxy curcumin and bisdemethoxy curcumin may have a stabilizing effect on curcumin, preventing it from metabolizing into less active compounds.[3-5]

Curcuminoids, including curcumin, have been shown to inhibit inflammatory enzymes, such as cyclooxygenase-2 and 5-lipoxygenase, reducing prostaglandin synthesis and other well-known mediators of inflammation.[6-9]

Whole-Body Turmeric Extra™: Beyond Turmeric

Whole-Body Turmeric Extra™ includes Boswellia, also known as Indian Frankincense. This botanical is a kind of deciduous tree grown in hilly areas of India and China. The gum resin of Boswellia has been used for centuries in the Ayurvedic tradition and for its ability to support the body’s natural inflammatory response. The beneficial effects of this botanical have been attributed to its boswellic acids. The product uses a standardized extract that yields 65% boswellic acid.

Devil’s Claw, also known as grapple plant or wood spider, has been traditionally used as a bitter to stimulate gastric enzymes and digestion, and for its ability to support a healthy inflammatory response. Whole-Body Turmeric Extra™ also delivers a blend of soothing botanical extracts, including Turmeric, Stinging Nettle, and Rose Hips, which provide additional support for a healthy inflammatory response.[10-12]

Enhanced Bio-Availability

BioPerine®, a concentrated extract of black pepper, is an important ingredient in all Irwin Naturals® products. Clinically studied in numerous trials, this botanical extract enhances the bioavailability of many of the ingredients in their formulations. When combined with Ginger to create a traditional Ayurvedic blend, the Irwin Naturals® BioPerine® Complex takes bioavailability to the next level.
